Today is our last day in Sydney. The orange and red WYD backpacks are fewer and more dispersed, the pilgrims are going home, and the everyday life in Sydney is returning to normal. I think of where the pilgrims are now, . . .
. . . where they are returning to, all the riches they are bringing back with them.
I've had the opportunity the last couple days to visit some more pilgrim sites and to catch up with some friends. Monday evening I made pilgrimage to St. Mary's Cathedral in Sydney. For World Youth Day, they have the body of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, the patron of the youth. Around the Cathedral there were banners with various aspects of his life and teaching, and then a place to venerate his coffin. I could go on and on about Blessed Pier Giorgio, how he lived the life of the Beatitudes throughout his childhood and while in college. I really encourage you to find out more about him and to ask for his prayers.
I also went to the shrine of Blessed Mary MacKillop, Australia's first Blessed. The Holy Father made pilgrimage there as well.
We are running to the airport to go New Zealand and I regret that I cannot share more. I send all of you the very best wishes and am so glad you have followed along on this amazing journey.
May God bless you!
